The Touch Frenzy 🏉🏃🏻🏆

Kia Ora Fellow Bookworms –

Today in this writing i will be talking about how my experience at the touch tournament went, where it happened and who won overall in this tournament stay tuned for an exciting announcement!

Firstly, the main touch people had to activate towards the car gates to discuss some important news, and we also got handed some awesome designed uniforms for the touch tournament which i found very generous ( Used previously in sports camp ), but then after that we wore it and put on our boots to have some fine grip. When we were finished discussing, we headed straight to the van and we had no problems after that.

Our destination we headed for was Bruce Pulmans Park, which i thought was the most perfect spot to play some fun tournaments at. When we first arrived the boys team admired the big field and the other teams we were competing against. Then afterwards the full club arranged together and was told some inspiring words by Whaea Lorraine mostly leaning onto the sportsmanship and listening to the referee side. But straight after that, we did some warm ups to fuel up our body to get ready for the upcoming games we were going to play against. We weren’t very active during the warm ups but i didn’t mind since some of us were actually listening to the commanded moves.

Then when the games were starting, our first opponents were Hingaia Peninsula, and our team didn’t find very challenging as some of them were very small, but very swift and fast, but we also had some good defenders and swift players aswell. In the first 5 minutes of the game we were leading heavily by 4/5 points then as soon as the game finished we ended off with one more try leading us with 6-1. After our first victory we became more confident of our play, but we kept getting told off to keep moving forward, and honestly, i couldn’t blame them as some of the players were moving side way ( including me ) which leaded to not making much meters. But other then that, we were praised by scoring 6 tries in our first round.

In our second round, we had a big opponent, Opaheke School, this school felt more Eery in prescence as they had tall and other swift looking players, but we didn’t feel very much threatened as we played, but in the first half they started gaining scores on us which made some of us very pressured, but during the game we were able to score some authentic tries which caught some of the players off-guard and found out swiftness players this round very helpful since they were doing most of the work in draining the other teams energy. But overall, the scores were 4-4, our whole team thought we won that round since we scored the first try, but it wasn’t decided yet. We were very exhausted and many of us didn’t keep moving forward, ruining our plan.

In our third round, we had another opponent, Papakura normal school. Now our school felt very anxious this round, since Papakura normal school was very good and athletic at sports camp last-year which some of us remembered and don’t remember winning a single a form of rugby game against them, but our team weren’t much cocky and stayed humble and communicated which help us get some tries. In the mid 6 minutes of our game it was 2-1 ( we were leading ) and then all of a sudden they scored one more try before the timer ended which ended up being a draw again 2-2, which we got the same result against Opaheke school but we got the first try again which made us think we won again, but it wasn’t decided. After that game, some of us needed to hydrate and have some kai before we had our fourth game and some of us looked like we really needed some food due to the fact some of us didn’t have breakfast ( Including me, due to a rush ) but we all looked like we had enough more fuel to charge for the next game.

In our fourth round, we were up against Kauri flats, the athletic team, but all the good players were separated into different tournaments. The players looked very Intimidating, but we didn’t let that overcome us, as the round started we went with full brute force and managed to get some swift players in kauri flats out to some near-tries, then when the ball was officially ours to play, we went with pride and precision, with smiles on every face not giving a single care if we made the slightest mistake. But our teamwork and communication made us lead and we wanted to keep it that way so between the 7-minute mark we did everything to defend the attackers from Kauri flats, and it went successfully well. We did end up winning by 2-1, and we were cheering loudly since we were 2 games away from the finals and had mde it to the semi-finals. Now we started to hydrate more and gain more strategies on what type of methods we could use to out-match our next opponent. But overall this round was all about precision and communication alongside sportsmanship.

In our fifth round, we had to go up against the first team we went up against the first round, Hingaia Peninsula, we weren’t very intimidated as some of us already calculated some of their signature moves last round we played. Then when the whistle blew, we ran with the wind and pushed the team back with brute force and kept going until the ball was ours, as it came to the final touch the team was outmatched and the ball was ours. Since the ball was ours, we spread out and started communicating by whispering so that the other team didn’t hear us well and won’t know our next move. Swift player for example Demitrius, Toutai ( me ), pita including all of the other players were able to outrun many players in the other team and led by 2-0 by the third mark. When it came to the 8-minute mark, our team was devastatingly leading by 4-0 ( or 1 ) and after the game was finished, we were very happy and joyful that we beat them the second time and was able to move onto the next round where we and the other team was going to play for the first and second place.

And in our last and final sixth round, we went up against Papakura normal school again, since they won most of their games, since we knew what corner they mostly are fond of with one side and some of us went towards that side, but some of us went to the other side just in-case. When the whistle blew, we went with some of us forming an angle and made the other players know where to pass and when not to pass. Then after that it was our turn to play the ball, and we went with brute force, and didn’t focus on how fast they were but focusing and calculating on their signature moves so we can instantly avoid them. We scored a try at the 6-minute mark which made us very happy, while Papakura normal school had none, but as soon the Papakura normal school got a score, our amazing defenders were able to push them back and then eventually touched them till the 6th touch. Then when we had the ball, we went straight forward, some of us went to the side but we didn’t mind, then as the timer just ended we got another try. And then, we finally realised we just came first place in this whole tournament. The boys were cheering loudly and then started to handshake the other team and show appreciation of how they were a great opponent. Then we were notified, that since we were the first place winners, we were able to go to manukau counties, and we all started talking to each-other excitedly, to this moment now i still couldn’t stop thinking about how we won that amazing tournament.

In conclusion, i have summarized what we did in our overall experience at the touch tournament and what we did and who we went up against, our team were very supporting and knew how to ocmmunicate as a side note and we didn’t have any negative notes to any other teams because we knew that if we violated one of the rules we could get kicked out from the tournament. But in the end, our practices at school were all worth it and 2 weeks ahead of us, to manukau counties.

Thank you for reading my topic on what i and the others did the the touch tournament today, have a great and sunny day!

Complicated Shapes and Patterns 😟🌟🟩

Kia Ora Fellow Viewers –

Today in this piece of writing, I will be mostly talkative about a specific topic mainly focusing on the geometric right hand side, while on the left hand side, I will also be uncovering some shapes I have learnt that I haven’t gained much knowledge of, so come with me in this math adventure!

Firstly, for the people that don’t really have a special spot for geometry, trust me, it’s really easy once you get the hang of it. Geometry is basically the mathematical branch relating to points, lines, and surfaces alongside with higher dimensional analogues, sounds pretty complicated right? It’s probably because of the difficult words I’m stating, but everybody can get good at something, right?

For the geometric nerdies you might know what a quadrilateral is, the 2D closed polygon with four straight sides, verticles and angles! might sound pretty complicated by don’t judge really quickly by the name, it can get really easy to know what a quadrilateral is overtime!

In conclusion, we have been learning about geometric algebra this week!

Do you find geometry fun?

The Social Media Explosion! 💥

Kia Ora Fellow Readers –

Today in this piece of writing I will be mainly focusing on summarizing a reading comprehension mostly focusing on the social media affects towards the human brain and what this type of  affection releases in your body.

Firstly, devices are the main source of contact with others around the globe, but some users utilize this opportunity for granted and don’t necessarily use it for what it’s mainly meant for. Social media can affect the human brain by constantly scrolling through unnecessary conversations of others, which some people actually enjoy. But besides all the downsides there can be upsides to this criteria, for example it could instantly foster us with new music genres or online give-away opportunities. In all inclusive, social media is honestly the most suitable way to express yourself around the world.

Secondly, too much screen time can cause rare blurry effects that sometimes block your vision in the way you used to see the environment. But let me tell you this, there is a weird effect that releases in your body that’s called ” dopamine ” it’s often described as a ” feel good ” affect that makes you just want to continue, for example you ate something really delicious and now it has become your main focus, you just have to keep utilizing this opportunity to buy more. This effect on social media could mean constant focus on one topic that keeps you farther from truths or what you’re really interested in.

Third and lastly, social media can be the main focus of potentially losing our confidence due to constant comparison in ourselves, but we can avoid this by expressing ourselves and finding opportunities that makes us, ourselves. There is also a famous saying that goes ” comparison is the thief of joy ” which is stating that comparison will always ruin someone else’s quirks, joy or even their appearance. Social media can also foster self-centredness, which means that somebody could possibly be always watching us, caring for us, and even loving us to the point where it becomes so extreme that we think of ourselves more often and finding other stuff interesting.

In conclusion, I have talked about the effects of social media to the human brain, eye effects and many other topics! In-General, social media can have downsides and some upsides which make social media perfectly balanced online way of contacting others and even posting videos around the globe.

The Wonders Of Number Properties ✨

Kia Ora Fellow Readers!

Today in maths, we focused on number properties, this subject was really similar to algebra when i had taken a close and precise glance at the earliest. Number properties are basically the basic rules commanding how numbers act under arithmetic operations ( Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication ) , permitting for the shortening of advanced calculations, memory mathematics, and algebraic governing.

Associative Property –

The group of numbers for example ( A+B ) ( B+A ) does not Necessarily  change this is called ” The Associative Property ) this method is only suitable for addition and multiplication and does not affect subtraction neither division. This allows easier mental mathematics.

Distributive Property

The distributive property states that multiplying a sum of numbers is the same as each address individually by that exact same number and then summing the numbers together individually.

Conclusion –

Overall, learning about Number Properties has helped me understand a more advanced style of making formulas and learning about new informational properties ( Distributive, Number, Mental Etc,. )

Whats your favourite part about number properties?

My Favourite Maori Word – Manaakitanga

My Favourite Maori Word – Manaakitanga

Throughout these few days which felt slightly short and endless simultaneously, Our school has been focusing on key values, but from my perspective, Manaakitanga is an important principle in maori culture which i find my favorite Maori word due to its key foundation for structuring powerful, admiring and respectful relationships with others. This enhances mana ( Prestige/nobility ) of all gatherings involved. Manaakitanga fosters great well-being and cultivates inclusivity and belonging which is seen distinctively.

Manaakitanga isn’t just about giving, upholding and respecting but also about a shared life experience with others, and exchanging love, respect and care for others. Through practical acts of fostering, such as providing kai ( food ) singing a lullaby and including visitors addresses the visitors that they feel safe and cared for.

In summary, manaakitanga is all about respect for others and its a vital principle in maori culture representing the deep connection between others, which creates a more empathetic, inclusive, and supportive community by treating everybody with smiles, kindness and generosity.

“Respect for ourselves guides our morals; respect for others guides our manners, by Laurence Sterne.

Eruera Maihi Patuone – Reading To Myself ✨

Kia-Ora Fellow Bookworms!

Today, I was independently reading to myself about the story of Eruera-Maihi-Patuone, some of you might recognise this name from other blogs i’ve recently made this month. This man was a peacemaker who negotiated with the church missionaries society and arranged a tranquillity situation with Rewa. Eruera-Maihi-Patuone also was the eldest son of Tapua and Te Kawehau. Overall in general, Eruera-maihi-Patuone was a great rangatira in New-Zealands History.

I recorded a self-read record of me reading the story of Eruera-Maihi-Patuone ( Mostly just one paragraph overall ) If you want to listen, feel free to scan the QR code below!

Becoming Math Detectives 🔍🕵️

Kia Ora Fellow Readers!

Today in this piece of writing, i will be mostly talkative about our new math subject, so come with me on this exciting calculus journey! Our focus view has been mostly focusing on calculations involving rounding and estimation. I found this new subject a bit exhausting and difficult at first sight, but later on i got the hang of it. For the fellow bookworms reading my blog, you might be saying to yourself, ” what is estimation and rounding? ” well, the concept of estimating is basically like, for example ” 19.1 x 7.4! you’d then have to round them to 19/20 and 7, the actual answer ( 19/20 x 7 ) is 140 which is perpetually close to the decimal point solution ( 141.34 ) and rounding is basically like if you were given a number for example ” 183 ” and somebody told you to round it to the nearest 10! you’d then have to put your main focus onto the last 2 digits on your left hand side! you would then see the number is ” 83 ” but our most effective focus is the last digit ” 3 ” the last digit decides what number it’s going to land on! five or more let it score, 4 or less let it rest, which is basically saying if the number is 5 or higher then round it higher, if it is less then 5 or four then round it less. so our answer now is 180!

For the smart folks who are astounding at estimation give this ago!

  1. How many golf balls fit in a standard school bus?
  2. What is the estimated total weight of the Empire State Building?
  3. How many times does the average person blink in a lifetime?
  4. Estimate the total daily revenue of a Starbucks in a major city.
  5. How many balloons can fit inside an average living room?
  6. What is the total market size for driverless cars in five years?
  7. Estimate the number of piano tuners in New York City.
  8. How many hours of television does the average teenager watch per year?
  9. What is the total length of all human blood vessels if laid end-to-end?
  10. How many packets of seeds costing £1.84 can be bought for £20?

Let me know your estimations in the comments!

Key concepts of rounding and estimation

Rounding definition –

Rounding is basically changing the number to a simpler, approximate value based on a specific place ( e.g tens, hundreds thousands )

Rounding Rules –

To round easily, you have to recognise the target place value and look at the digit to its immediate right

I really hope you’ve learnt something really helpful in my blog, and maybe you can use some of the methods i taught you in this blog!

How Social Media Affects Us –

Do we really need social media or do we just wanna fit in? –

In this piece of writing I will be talking about how social media affects us, the land and responsibilities.

Human Affects –

In this situation we will be focusing on human effects. social media is often portrayed as humans best-friend, but is it really? social media can influence malevolent teachings to unknown websites. This can also cause 730,000 – 740,000 deaths every year globally specifically because of suicide –

Enviromental Affects –

But this not only affects humans but the environment too. Now you might be thinking ” How? ” well AI is actually part of polar-bears leading to a mass extinction. The long answers you might get from Chat-Gpt might be smoke from facilities ruining precious blue skies or the irridescent emerald green forests that eventually turn into facilities workshops or even nothingness.

Responsibilities –

Social media can cause excessive addiction and mental health issues ( anxiety and depression ) screen time before bed and checking non-important notifications at midnight disturbs sleep cycles, particularly for teenagers. Users often experience stage of anxiety and depression but not only that but jealousy, loneliness and low self-esteem due to constant and endless comparison

Conclusion –

So! in this piece of writing I have successfully talked about the human, environmental and responsibilities affects.

Do you think social media is worth to use  or not?
